Vaccination status?

2021.12.07 12:40 TrashFanElliot Vaccination status?

I haven't gotten a vaccine for covid yet. And I know I should, I don't want to get people sick and I don't want to get covid whilst unvaccinated. I haven't got one yet though, I haven't gone outside since before the vaccine was available. Like at all, before that I only went outside to get groceries as I was living in a different area and couldn't get groceries delivered. I haven't gone outside since I could just remain at home. Am I the only one or are there others like me? I know my family will want to see me at christmas and expect me to be vaccinated but I'm not. I'm not avoiding getting a vaccine because I'm anti-Vaxx I'm fully pro vaccine but I just can't pull myself to get outside and book an appointment if I have to anymore. Going out after being inside for months even if it's just to go visit family seems like a mountain to cross let alone going somewhere new.

2021.12.07 12:40 Zawer Music services not working on Android 12

Spotify and Tidal are both suffering from the same issue. With unrestricted battery and data use, music in both apps cut off when screen turns off. This is an intermittent problem and may go days without reoccurring. Clearing cache and data and reinstalling apps sometimes helps, but not always.
Any solutions out there? This started when on Android 12 beta (and continued when reverting back to 11). This continues to be an issue even after updating to the December release.
Phone is Google Pixel 3A. Other folks in the Spotify sub have had this problem. I haven't looked in the title sub.

2021.12.07 12:40 Ibadah514 Is an “ideal Christian society” one where sins like homosexuality, adultery, and pornography are illegal?

Hey everyone. I had this conversation in the comments a few days ago, and I’m interested to know what you all think.
Backstory: I realize that I am somewhat a product of my environment and my experiences, but all of my experiences seem to suggest that sins of these kinds are actually really bad for society, and they would be better off made illegal. Since beginning to think this way, I’ve realized that I can’t find any good evidence from the Bible to contradict this position, and actually much supports it. I’m moving more and more in this direction, and sometimes I feel kind of heartless or cruel because of it, but I also don’t know if it’s simply the American culture I was raised in that makes me feel this way. I almost wish someone could convince me out of this position using the Bible, so I could go back to being a “normal” Christian who is okay with some sins being legal as long as they don’t directly harm others, but whenever I hear others arguments, I just feel more convinced I’m heading in the right direction.
The Ideal society: let me give a picture of what I think an “ideal Christian society” may look like. Obviously this is not an exhaustive look, but mainly dealing with justice systems. Firstly, I think we can agree that and “ideal Christian society” is one that conforms closest to how God has said we ought to live and treat others, as well as any examples he’s given. Personally, I think the ideal is one where sins like homosexuality, abortion, adultery and pornography are major and harmful enough to warrant state illegalization. I look at the OT for a picture of this. The OT is the closest biblical thing we have to a society that’s main goal is to live according to God’s commands. In this society I see punishment for evil. When the Israelite men were committing idolatry and sleeping with Moabite women, God sent plagues on them. Only when Phinehas put a spear through a couple in the midst of sin, did God stop the plague and restore Israel. Over and over again we see when Israel allows clear sins to go unchecked in their society, they suffer. And over and over we see when Israel is sticking closely to Gods law, they are prosperous and strong. I think the ideal society would be much better off striving to live closer to Gods word and rid ourself of sin. To take the gospel of Grace into account, I believe many chances could be given for abortionists, adulterers, homosexuals etc, to repent and be restored to society. Obviously if they can’t repent, then there would need to be some kind of punishment or enforcement of the law. The degree of the punishment could vary, from fines to death, as we see in the OT. We would strive to have mercy and forgiveness in our justice system, but also root out the sin that causes destruction.
Some Common objections I hear and my response:

  1. “Let people do what they want as long as they’re not hurting anyone.” Personally, I feel I’ve come to realize that what God calls sin is not called sin arbitrarily, but because it causes destruction in individuals and societies. I think that all sin, especially these major ones, cause incredible harm. Look at America as an example. When lgbt was less that 1% of the population we saw no harm in giving them more freedom. Now fast forward and Christians are being fired from jobs if they voice their opinion in love, and children are being taught by the state anti God sexuality.
  2. “You can’t change their hearts that way” I actually think you can, or at least you can prevent hearts from turning to more evil. We don’t get rid of murder laws so that people can have “free choice” of whether they want to kill or not. Also, many more murders would happen if we removed our laws all of a sudden. Using lgbt as an example, after legalization, generation after generation became more lgbt until now 15% of gen z claims to be lgbt. If we can’t change hearts, we can at least prevent the hearts of millions in future generations from being indoctrinated into sin and away from God.
  3. “Jesus pardoned the women caught in adultery”. To me it seems like this is best, if not the only Biblical evidence that can be used against my position (correct me if you know others). But clearly Jesus is not condoning all adultery here, he says go and sin no more. Would he have done the same once again if she had been caught doing the same thing the next day? And clearly Jesus does not intend for us to pardon ALL lawbreakers, otherwise we would just let murderers go and give them one second chance. I believe this story, when applied to governments laws, fits much better with the idea that we should have merciful and redemptive justice systems, rather than we should not make these sins illegal in the first place.
  4. “Freedom should be protected” personally, I think freedom is one of the values that’s true meaning has been most warped by the west. True freedom is not freedom to do whatever you want to do, because the Bible assures us that when we do that, we become slaves to the flesh. I have had to get rid of my American view of freedom, in place of one I see as more Christian. This is freedom to do what is right. By incentivizing and aiding people to choose what is right and good for them, we give them real freedom. What freedom do kids how today not to get hooked on porn at young ages? I would argue they have almost no freedom to avoid porn, it will almost inevitably get to most of them. In the ideal society, in my opinion, porn is banned and illegal to make and distribute, because that is what gives our children the freedom to do what is right. Of course they can still seek it out if they really want to, but the role of government should be to provide freedom to make good choices and prosper because of it. Another side to this is Gods example. In Gods society, Israel, he ordained the death of people committing major sins that would harm Israel. Also, looking forward to heaven, yes everyone has a free choice to make, but if you choose evil over God he tells us you will be thrown in a lake of fire. Fear of punishment is healthy to some degree, and our societies laws are built on it, and Gods as well, while being balanced out by grace. I simply think our laws should reflect Gods divine plan and judgment. I imagine someone who has given there life to sexual pleasure standing before God and saying “how was I supposed to know it was wrong? Nothing ever indicated to me it was!” And our laws have a chance to reflect, even in small measure what will be Gods judgment.
  5. “How would you feel if Christians were made illegal?” The problem I see with this argument is that i think we can clearly see society shifting more toward hating Christians, removing their rights, and shunning their opinions right now, in our so called “free” society. And I understand why. The gospel and the Christian life runs totally counter to the sinful life, and it threatens the way of the sinful life, as sin threatens the way of the christian life. I’ve come to see these to sides as ones that cannot coexist for long, one will eventually gain the upper hand and attempt to wipe out the threat. I simply feel I’ve come to terms with the fact that good and evil can’t coexist, they are in a war with each other, and one must win, and so why not make it the good side? If persecution comes on christians and we are made illegal and killed, then I actually understand the reasoning, and I’ll pray to God on that day for help. And so in short, they actually should make Christianity illegal if they don’t want to gospel to inevitably challenge sin, I think they know this actually, which is why we’re moving slowly to less and less rights for christians.
  6. “Where would you draw the line, then?” I truly don’t know. I just feel that these major sins with obvious destructive patterns that are specifically listed in the Bible, is a good place to start. Of course I think we should avoid being overly harsh to minor sins. Who gets to decide? I don’t know! Could be elected officials just like what we have today.
7.”The apostles didn’t do that” Yes the early church did not live like this, but they were on the receiving end of state persecution and so there was no way for them to have the option. So we simply don’t see what they would have done in power. We do, however, see Paul expelling a man committing incest from the church, and I would say how Paul dealt with those in the church is the only analogy we can really draw on how to deal with those in a Christian society.
  1. “That was the OT, we’re under grace now” I think many Christians have too split a view between OT and NT. It almost seems like some think God had completely different characteristics between both. I think the two flow together much more easily than that. Yes, we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, but this says nothing of societal laws. Surely we don’t get rid of the commandment “thou shalt not murder” because of the New Covenant. Every place that an OT law is no longer applicable to today, we have a answer for why in the NT. I see no answers for why adultery, abortion, homosexuality etc, should be more excused today. Christians also generally recognize that grace and forgiveness before God does not always translate to the human made state. For example, a murderer can find forgiveness from God 5 minutes after heinously killing, but very few Christians would say he ought to be excused then from punishment. The Bible talks favorably of governments, saying God has set them up and given them the sword for our benefit. I believe it’s the God ordained role of the government to, to some degree, represent justice on earth. And justice is payment or punishment for wrongdoing.
A few more notes I want to make are that although I know when I talk about this it can seem like I’m just so angry at people who sin, but this isn’t the case. I love everyone, and I’m striving to do what’s right in Gods eyes as well as what I see will truly benefit everyone. This in no way diminishes the importance of sharing the gospel, discipleship, and living life with and sacrificing for others. I see the value of the image of God and the redeem-ability of every human being. I’m simply narrowing my scope to the role of government and the ideal “Christian society” or “Christian justice system” in this post. Also, I fully understand that as an “ideal” it would be extremely problematic if one tried to immediately force a system like this on a place like America for instance, but the point of an ideal is to know what I should aim for some day in the far off future, how I should pray, vote, work, teach, etc.
There may be more objections I’ve forgotten about. But you can see that most of these objections are built on what people “feel” is better practice or what “seems” right to them. I appreciate the woman caught in adultery story because it is one attempt at answering the question biblically. You can answer me any way you want, but I will say I would infinitely more appreciate any answers based on scripture.
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read and respond. God bless.

2021.12.07 12:40 what3ver314 'they have no real reason to be afraid of coming out'

I recently watched a video call 'Good LGBT representation is boring (and why that is a problem)' from Verilybitchie on youtube and since a thought has been floating around my brain.
In the video while talking about how boring and not very gay the 'Love, Simon' movie is (which is fair), she says something about how Simon has no real reason to not come out or feel weird about coming out. Like, he knows his friends and family will support him and that makes the story feel weak.
This made me feel weird, because when I was around 12 I loved this book. It's been a while since I read it so this might be wrong, but the thing that struck a chord with me, even before I knew I was gay, was that Simon said he had no real reason to hesitate about coming out but there was still something blocking him from doing it. He focuses on comments his dad makes that probably don't mean anything, and overthinks it basically. I feel like I can relate to this.
People always say it's alright to be closeted and you're 'valid', but when people talk about this the reasoning is always 'it's not safe for some people to come out'. It is safe for me to come out, and I know there wouldn't be massive negative ramifications to coming out. I'm still valid. (Side note, I think it's weird that we always give excuses for why we are closeted if we are so valid.)
I guess I'm just wondering if there are a lot of people like me who haven't come out because something stops them each time they think about it. Or is Love, Simon a weird coming out story in that aspect?

So I have a boosted GS C6 with a still stock bottom end LS3. Currently makes 820ish RWHP through the 6L80.
Wanting to see if anybody else on here has pushed the SBE LS3 harder and what life I can expect from the bottom end at that point. Car ran a 9.70@144 on my old and heavier wheel/tire combo. On my new setup id imagine I'm in the 9.55-9.6 range.
Also curious what sort of budget rod/piston combos or hardware people have used.

2021.12.07 12:40 Reddsquare91 CAD management for plastic injection mouldings, thoughts??

Hi all,
I'm currently trying to write a protocol for a CAD management piece for a company I work for, as historically their data management has been crap. What I'm finding is that the CAD model has been changed to match the physical part which come out. Small sinks and differential shrinkage included in that.
Problem being, when I try and revise up the part and pass the component to the tool makers they don't know which bit I have and haven't changed.
There are lots of small 0.1mm move faces, or a slight angle of a rib changed. We make small parts that have a tolerance of between 0.05mm and 0.13mm generally. I use SW btw.
I could take the tool makers step file which I get back from them everytime, and use that and my master model...problem with that is I dont want to have to replace the drawing everytime, and replacing the component doesn't work as you just get a tonne of dangling dims. Also, the company are keen to maintain some data around what the physical part comes out as, so need to either create a configuration for both, or overwrite dims on the drawing to match what the part actually comes out as.
Anyway I'm rambling, just interested if anyone else has the same issues and what they do to resolve them?
Cheers, R

I'm researching for a potential fat tire bike or plus your size MTB. Are 3" tires wide enough? I'd mostly be doing light single track and kicking around in the snow on days when the bike trail isn't plowed for my rando.
