NAS Media Server Recommendation ($10-15k)

2021.12.07 12:13 jackajm NAS Media Server Recommendation ($10-15k)

I am looking at buying a media server for my media company. I want a NAS, but I also want something that is easy to index content on. I like the EVO Shared Media servers as they seem to work with many different applications (Premiere, Final Cut, Resolve). I also like that they have the ability to work with a playout system once I am ready to take that step. Are there other options I should look at, and are these systems good for what I am paying for? I will also have up to 4 editors using the server at once, mostly handling 1080p content. Let me know your thoughts.

What happens at the end of survival mode? And when is a good point to leave the world? Should I just try to go until the countdown is almost at 0, or is there a point where it just makes sense to leave the world?

2021.12.07 12:13 Sota941 General question about fidelity and DRS’ing

So I had finally transferred 95% of my GME to fidelity from TD to DRS.
They hit my account today and I was told that technically they aren’t even in my account yet, And that I have to wait a full day cycle for the transfer to initiate.
I’m fairly stupid when it comes to this stuff I’ll own that, But is that true? Or is fidelity trying to dick me over? Also was told on the phone that basically they hold the shares for us and their isn’t a point to DRS’ing. I’m paraphrasing that but that was the gist lol.
Appreciate any and all information!

2021.12.07 12:13 kafka_22 One of the interesting things about GET BACK documentary

There is a segment in the third episode where all four announce that they are going up to meet with Alan Klein. The next scene is where Paul is talking to John about the plan for show moving forward. Paul's demeanor seems noticeably testy. This is the part where he snaps at George Martin. I wonder if this was a result of that meeting. I am shocked John felt like it would be a good move to have him as a manager. I know he got a better deal for them but the rift he facilitated was devastating

2021.12.07 12:13 JamesDakon GnuPG GPA / GnuPG GUI for hidpi display 4k 32zoll in xfce4.16 Arch Linux

I recently switched from KDE to xfce becauce I felt that KDE was bloated and used too much ram and cpu time for what it was actually doing.
I really like xfce so far for how it combines functionality and usability with simplicity and modularity. Especially that the components are independent and not interwined into each other.
Essentially the only problem I encountered was display scaling. I use a FHD 24 zoll and a 4K 32 zoll monitor. I set window scaling in GTK3 and QT5 to 2x and use 1.5 scaling on my FHD Monitor. I also selected the hidpi theme and set font sizes accordingly.
The only thing I cant get to scale is Gnu GPA because it still uses GTK2.
So I would be glad for advice of how to scale "legacy" GTK2 applications or alternatives to GPA besides KGPG, Kleopatra and Seahorse / Nautilus.
I need a GPG Interface for key-management.
As well as file / clipboard decryption, encryption, sign and verify functions.

2021.12.07 12:13 roughravenrider The Fairness Doctrine and American media in 2021

Media reform is an interesting topic because it can be so thorny in relation to freedom of speech and what level the government should be intervening in media practices.
The Fairness Doctrine, enacted in 1949, mandated broadcast networks devote time to contrasting views on public matters. Congress upheld the doctrine and it was upheld unanimously by the Supreme Court in 1969 in Red Lion Broadcasting Co. v. FCC when the court upheld journalist Fred Cook's right to an on-air response after he was attacked by a radio host.
It remained in effect until President Reagan's administration. In 1985 under chairman Mark Fowler, the FCC released a report stating that the Fairness Doctrine hurt public interest and violated free speech rights guaranteed under the First Amendment. It started getting rolled back in practice until the FCC panel under chairman Dennis Patrick fully repealed the doctrine in 1987 by a 4-0 vote.
Congress had attempted to codify the Fairness Doctrine before it was repealed by the FCC, but the bill was vetoed by President Reagan and Congress did not have the votes to overcome his veto.
Now, the media landscape is dramatically different than it was several decades ago. Some would say the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine opened the floodgates to partisan and ideological vitriol that we see today. Others argue repealing the doctrine re-established our fundamental right to freedom of speech, and that the media should not be influenced by government authority.
The Fairness Doctrine is just one aspect of this debate though, and obviously has been repealed for 34 years at this point. What do you see, in 2021, as the biggest problems plaguing media companies and what can we do to solve them?

Interviewer: Yes, 4 Saturday mornings a year (once every 3 months) for 2 hours.
Me: Ok. Waits three weeks, does another interview, does induction, does police check, signs vague contract.
Interviewer: Before you start, as we discussed it's mandatory over time on the weekend, OK? :3
Me: no mandatory overtime, no weekends. Absolutely not discussed.
Interviewer: SHOCKED
I would know if you mentioned it, you think I'm senile?
It might not be the hardest job but I can remember a conversation. I'm here because I struggle with obedience not intelligence.
When 40 hours isn't enough you need more staff, you won't get that by stealing weekends in forced overtime and teĺling lies to get people onboarded. idk why I bothered, I just wanted a tent.
Every time shit like this happens I remember they had to outlaw child labour.
I'm called "lazy" for not want to work. Mate. Im busy trying to not be a fucking idiot, that's a full time job.
My therapist didn't even know what happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. No wonder you're so happy, you're clueless.
Sorry, incoherent rant added on I'm not deleting.

2021.12.07 12:13 De_Dingledangler Custom prints are not working, but premade ones do.

To preface this, I'm brand new to 3d printing. I normally design using Fusion 360 but have never needed to print something out until recently which is why I got the printer. I have an Creality Ender 3 and am using Overture PLA Filament (1.75mm).
After assembly, I leveled it using a few guides I found, and printed out the dog included with the SD card. Dog looks great and printed out on the first run.
I then moved over to another "test" file which effectively makes boxes all over the board. Everything seems level from what I understand as I had run the test 3 times with results that look just fine.
When I moved over to a small test I created, things fell apart within the first 3 minuets.
As stated earlier, I use Fusion 360 to design things as it's what I've always designed on. From my research Prusa Slicer is meant to be a "noob friendly" slicer and seems to have the most hype around it, so I threw my .stl file there, sliced it using pre-made settings, and hit the print button.
I am attempting to print out a modified "pill bottle" as I felt it would test out a lot of the components I planned on using the 3d printer for in the first place. However, when I try to print either the cap or the body, the nozzle continues to smack down onto the bed and move the print mid-print. It doesn't do this on any of the pre-made tests and I haven't re-leveled it because it appears level when I print out someone else's g-code. So I'm very certain I'm doing something weird.
I've also noticed that the "settings" I set on Prusa Slicer are not adhered to when I tell the printer to start printing. The nozzle temp is wrong and the speed is always cranked up to "100%" for some reason despite, at least from what I can tell, it should be on about 50%.
Just wondering if someone could point me to a good how-to video on how to use Prusa slicer or even another slicer. I'll even take a "for kids" video at this point if it works. With no dislikes on YT, I really can't tell which videos are genuinely good outside of a guess by looking at production value.
